Many Sydney families assume a softer property market will make it easier to upgrade to a larger home. However, the reality is proving quite different.
New data shows the gap between a typical three-bedroom and four-bedroom house in Sydney has widened to approximately $270,000, highlighting the ongoing affordability challenges facing growing families.
While property values have moderated in some areas, the combination of higher interest rates, tighter borrowing capacity and limited supply of larger family homes continues to make upsizing difficult. As a result, many households are exploring alternatives such as renovations, extensions or relocating to more affordable suburbs further from their preferred locations.
